My mom and I always used to write notes to each other when we were mad. Not angry notes, just “explanations” if you will. Her favorite thing to tell me was that if I was angry, that was ok because I was entitled to my feelings. People can’t read your mind, she used to say, “living with someone is like being in a marriage, sometimes you need to tell them how you are feeling”. But after each note, she’d write the same thing.

“I’m still angry with what you did, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t love you with everything I have.”
